Ladies and Gentlemen – DO NOT drive around town tracking and watching for your spouse’s vehicle. (I did that in 1998, things have changed since then!)

GPS tracking devices are the way to go now. They used to be difficult to download, and the data was all in longitude and latitude numbers! Not so now – now the majority come with a computer or cell phone interface where you can (sometimes) see LIVE where that vehicle is.

There is a wide range of GPS tracking devices out there, with a wide range of features you may or may not need.

They can be expensive, but they are so worth it because you will know for abolute certainty where their vehicle is and you will (in most cases) have a record of it. The ones that provide live data can even give you the chance to go to the place your spouse is and see for yourself what they are up to right then.

Here is a list of features you can find in various devices:

  • A computer or cell phone dashboard.
  • Live Data – on a map
  • International (US, Europe, Canada etc)
  • Alerts – Geofencing where you can set an alert to know when they go outside a certain area
  • Speed – Yes! There are some that install directly into the cars electrical system and can let you know how fast the car is going at any time. Great for teenagers!
  • Alerts – Set alters for when the car moves at all from its current parking spot. So you don’t have to constantly be watching the live interface.
  • Strong Magnets – for attaching to the vehicle.
  • Waterproof case – sometimes they come with it, sometimes you buy this separately. Look for one with extra strong magnets.

When you get one of these they will come with detailed instructions. You will want to practice with it a lot, and also practice downloading the data if it isn’t automatically uploaded into cloud storage.

Here are the ones I have researched, or used and recommend. Be sure to read through each one and compare all the features carefully. (Important Note: Be sure to see if the data is recorded so you can watch it later or if it is just a way to *watch* and doesn’t actually record anything.)
